Since we started CFgear, we’ve known that flash drives were vastly more environmentally friendly when compared to conventional paper handouts, whether it’s a small 128 MB drive, or a fully loaded 32 GB option. Last month, we used this popular model at a large animal health show in Las Vegas.

Our data specialists began by rounding up the conference materials that were completed prior to the event. These included Speaker lists, Question and Answer guidelines, presentation materials from some of the speakers, a map of the conference itself, and a listing of recommended attractions. We then add some extra-credit curriculum used by the animal professionals who were looking for some continuing education opportunities. Once we had all of the data from the speakers, we turned to the event planners to try and find a way to limit the overall paper usage for the event. We worked with the many vendors attending and asked them to offer digital marketing information as opposed to more traditional paper handouts, many of which are thrown away before attendees even leave the building.

Once we had the preloaded drives assembled, branded, loaded, and delivered, they were handed out to each of the conference attendees. On the event’s completion, we talked to both participants, vendors, and the event coordinators to get some feedback on the conference, and our flash drives in particular, and here’s what they had to say:

• Event organizers replied that promotional costs were decreased with the smaller amount of printed material and man-hours normally used to stuff binders and grab bags.
• Vendors also felt that they had a more lasting impression with their prospective audience and were glad that they weren’t required to lug around hundreds of pounds of printed material.
• Respondents told us that they were more likely to take a look at the marketing materials when they were paired with useful curriculum and other conference materials. They also mentioned over and over again that the organization of the data on the drives made it significantly easier for respondents to find the information they needed, and for them to use it in the workplace.
• After lectures, respondents told us how happy they were to have the speakers data already loaded onto the drive. They went on to say that they were actually able to sit and enjoy the speeches without having to furiously write notes. Respondents also commented on how easy it was for them to access the sources used and recommended by speakers with direct links to sites already loaded on the drives.
• Last, and certainly not least was the Green aspect. Planners, vendors, and attendees all noted that they were pleased to see less waste, and more environmentally friendly choices used at the event. We’ve known that our drives are a fantastic way to help save both money and the environment, but it was fantastic to have our opinions mirrored though our clients.
