Logo Artwork: Acceptable Formats
If you don’t read this, we just might cry!
The Skinny on “True” Vector Art – this will take but a few minutes … and time spent helping us (and you!) NOW means more time to take in a sunset or listen to the sounds of singing birds LATER. Sweet, huh?!
How about an ol’ artwork file lesson:
In general, graphic art files can be separated into two main categories – vector art & raster art. We need VECTOR ART!
A bit more specific:
Most images floating around the internet are what we call Raster Art. They have the following file extensions: .jpg, .gif, .bmp, .png, .psd, and others. The problem with these files is that our design department can’t manipulate (i.e. alter the image sizes) the file without the image losing quality. When you zoom in on a Raster Art image, the image pixilates. And pixilation is a dirty word ‘round here. That means a less than perfect imprint or laser etch quality, and we don’t stand for anything less than perfect!
So what can ya do to help the cause?
Pretty please with digital sugar on top … give us a “true” Vector Art file. These files most often come from the low lit offices of your design gurus. They must be created in software programs like Adobe Illustrator, CAD, Photoshop, Corel Draw. Common and required file extensions are .eps, .ai, .cad, swf. The end result is no pixilation…a sharp image.
Pretty please with even more digital sugar on top…do NOT use a design software to save a .jpg, .gif. or any other “untrue” Vector Art file as a .eps, .ai. Doing this only makes our design guy Henry break out in a colorful rash (he’s an artist, even his rash is artistic). If need be, Henry can help create a true Vector Art file for a nominal fee. He sometimes accepts organic peanut butter & high-fructose corn syrup-FREE jelly in exchange for his efforts and expertise. Sometimes is the key word here.
Lastly, if you have doubts, concerns or questions, please talk to your Solutions Director. We’d rather address ‘em NOW so you can enjoy gazing at the night sky or taking a leisurely stroll during lunch LATER.
